Eight translations of Charlotte Perkins Gilman's Women and Economics (1898) appeared between 1900 and 1911, all with prefaces either by the translator or by an eminent figure of the day. This essay combines a close look at the prefaces with a broader inquiry into the translators and the circumstances of the translations to show the diverse ways in which one major feminist work became better known internationally.
