Document 14C: Jean L. King and Mary Yourd to President Robben Fleming, 16 October 1970, Jean King Papers, Box 3, HEW Folder, Bentley Historical Library, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

October 16, 1970
Delivered by hand

President Robben Fleming
University of Michigan
Ann Arbor, Michigan

Dear President Fleming:

We note from a recent press release of the University that you received from the regional office of Civil Rights of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare in Chicago a letter dated October 6, 1970, signed by Don F. Scott. The letter was the result of an HEW investigation prompted by a complaint which we filed with the Department of Labor in May of 1970. The University's press release of October 13, 1970, refers to and attempts to refute the contents of Scott's letter, but does not reproduce it. We have not seen the letter and do not know its contents. We request that you furnish one of the undersigned with a copy of Don Scott's October 6 letter to you.

We would also request to be informed of the name of the person to whom you directed the letter (referred to on Page 2 of the news release) assuring "HEW of an immediate analysis and the development of a revised affirmative action program."

Sincerely,

Jean L. King, 3134 Sunnywood Drive
Ann Arbor, Michigan

Mary Yourd
