How Did the Los Angeles Woman's Building Keep Feminism Alive, 1970-1991?

Abstract

This project focuses on the history of one women's movement organization, the Woman's Building in Los Angeles, California, to explore what happened to feminism during the 1980s. As the political climate became more conservative and economic resources dried up, members of the Woman's Building were forced to make compromises to ensure the survival of their organization. The project assesses the costs of these changes and their impact on the feminist mission of the Woman's Building.
