Introduction

By the late 1980s, the majority of the Woman's Building funds were coming from one source, the Los Angeles Commission on the Arts. The letter reprinted below is a notification that funding would not be renewed due to problems in the Building's most recent grant application, including an unclear target audience and difficulties with the management structure of the Woman's Building.

Dear Kathy,

Thank you for your participation in the 1991-92 Cultural Grants Program. Your project was reviewed by a peer panel and was not recommended for funding. Panel summaries are provided to give constructive suggestions and might be useful for application in the next cycle. The following is the summary of your panel comments:

This concept could be successful, but there appears to be no plan and understanding of the project. There is no involvement in community outreach, and the specificity of the audience is unclear. There is a concern about the administrative staff and the management support is not acceptable. The organization needs a stable foundation. The amount requested exceeds tne eligibility as set by program guidelines.

Should you have any questions, please call the Grants Division at (213) 620-8635. I encourage you to apply again and I thank you for your interest.

Sincerely,

ADOLFO V. NODAL
General Manager
