Introduction

This pro-suffrage leaflet capitalized upon the respect and admiration many Americans at the time felt for former President Abraham Lincoln. The ideal audience for the leaflet would have been Populist and Republican men--the Democratic Party had little affection for “the Great Emancipator.” But then, as was clear from the passage of the 1893 Colorado suffrage bill, Democrats were less likely to support woman suffrage anyway. The constituencies Colorado suffragists needed to mobilize to win on November 7, 1893 were to be found in the People’s and Republican parties.
