Biography of Edith Williams, 1887-1987

Adapted from a biographical sketch by Nancy Greaux Rabess

Edith L. Wiliams was a founder of the Suffragist League in the Virgin Is lands in December 1932. In 1935, Edith Williams, Ann Marie Vessup, and Eulalie Stevens submitted a lawsuit when they (among a group of 23 teachers) were denied the right to register to vote. A court decision in December 1935 gave women in St. Thomas the right to vote.
