Biography of Mary Stewart Fontaine (Mrs. John Dozier) Pou, 1869-1934

Vice President for the Georgia Woman's Suffrage Association, 1900-1920

Mary Stewart Fontaine Pou was born in Georgia on May 25, 1869. She married John Dozier Pou in 1897 and had one child with him, a daughter named Elizabeth "Bettie" L. Pou who was born in 1908. She was the Vice President for the Georgia Woman's Suffrage Association and the Equal Suffrage Party of Georgia, being active in the suffrage movement from at least 1914. She continued to lobby with other suffragists in 1921, probably through the Georgia League of Woman Voters. She was also a member of the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs. She died July 9, 1934 in Georgia. She is buried in Muscogee County's Linwood Cemetery in Columbus, Georgia.
