Introduction

   In the years following his involvement in the Freedom Movement, Francis Hamlin Mitchell (Mitch) divided his time between the U.S. and Mexico, living in the small island of Jelapa, a few miles offshore from Puerta Vallarta. In the photo, Francis is standing in front of a "tensile membrane," which he recognized as a potential housing solution for third world communities.
