Introduction
This was a family that lived near the Nelson family on the Hayes Plantation. The mother had asthma and no access to medicine. I asked my mother to send me some of my asthma medicine, which I gave to her. In her graciousness, she made me a patchwork quilt. The quilt never made it out of Mississippi, but somewhere in my papers is a picture of her, standing on the porch and holding up the quilt.
