Introduction

Popular art magazines are an important indicator of the mindset of the art world at large, according to the Guerrilla Girls. In 1986 they conducted their own research into the number of feature articles about women and reviews of women's projects that appeared in important art magazines. They found the European magazine, FlashArt, to be the worst offender, but the inequalities present in major American magazines were still very disturbing to the Guerrilla Girls, who released this poster in the hopes of shaming such magazines into compliance.
