With the successful strike settlement, Local 341 became an institution within the ILGWU and in San Francisco's Chinatown. It opened an office in San Francisco in August 1938 and held a dinner party to celebrate the opening. The invitation and the following newspaper account (see Document 24B) reveal once again the bilingual and bicultural character of the Chinse Ladies' Garment Workers local.
The event clearly served to connect Local 341 to its varied allies. An ILGWU acting troupe came from New York City to perform the union's educational play, "Pins and Needles," and had a place of honor at the banquet. Notice also the presence of representatives of the Golden Gate Manufacturing Company, west coast union leaders, and leaders from various Chinese-American organizations.
