Introduction
On June 24, 1992, the Guerrilla Girls and the Women's Action Coalition (WAC) joined together for a political protest outside of the SoHo Guggenheim Museum. There were few gorilla masks outside of the Guggenheim; the masks functioned better in performances than in demonstrations. WAC, with its open membership and identities that were known, even flaunted, seemed better suited to the moment than the Guerrilla Girls. Yet by 1995 WAC had disbanded. The Guerrilla Girls are unusual in representing more than a decade of sustained activism.
