Conference participants celebrate mass at the 1978 Women's Ordination Conference in Baltimore.
This liturgy proved controversial because, by 1978, some Catholic feminists were unwilling to have a
male priest preside over their liturgy. A small group of women planned an alternative liturgy for
women only, scheduled at the same time. This forced participants to chose between the two, a choice
some viewed as a political statement.
